What good is a website if no one ever sees it?
By Jamie Crager Here are a few tips to help get your traffic to your website up, after all, if no one knows about your site or goes to it, then whats the point? The main purpose of a website should be to sell your products and services, not be a 5 page info blurb that does not give a visitor a reason to call you . Just you knowing that your website is there will not help or grow your business, so what can we do about it? Let’s look at a few things you can do…
1) Content: A lot of times we work with people who want great looking websites, but do not understand the need for good content that needs to be updated regularly. The logic is “I just do not have time to keep it updated”. I completely understand the logic, but if you go to the expense of having a good website, it is that content that helps get people there and keep them coming back to your website. Google loves to see new content, especially content that reinforces your brand and contains text that emphasizes your keywords and phrases. This helps with your organic rankings on Google, which of course a number of items are taken into consideration in determining your ranking, but this is one of the biggest.
2) Exposure: The need to put your website address on all printed material and be promoted can not be stressed enough. Websites never sleep and can convey your message or sell your product and service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Also, creating both a mailing and emailing list that you send out newsletters or other branded literature on a monthly or quarterly basis will greatly improve your brand exposure and will help get traffic, especially if you create a message that contains a promotion, special or any other intensive to draw people to your website.
3) Search Engine Optimization (SEO): This is one of the biggest and most important things you can do. From the time your website is set up, to weekly and monthly management, there is no doubt that going with the Google/MSN/Yahoo flow of what they are looking for is a monster advantage over not doing any SEO or doing things that hurt your rankings. Starting with page names, meta tags, content and moving to submit sitemaps regularly & optimizing the robot.txt file are extremely important when dealing with SEO. Also, the need to frequently analyze your web statistics is important to make adjustments to your keywords and phrasing and see what is being seen by Google and also what visitors think is important.
These are only a few of many things that you can do to help get you traffic, give us a call to discuss these and other ways we can help you grow your organization. The key is acting, just doing nothing not only does not help, but it can make things worse, especially if your competitors are doing what needs to be done to improve their exposure. You do not want to be out of site, out of mind, then you will see your sales go down and that is not a good thing, just ask my wife.
